Las Lomas School Nurse

Greetings :)  I am Kathi Mooney, your School Nurse. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 37 years. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree in Nursing. I am Public Health Nurse certificated, am an American Red Cross Instructor and an Adivsor for LLHS HOSA (Health Occupations for Students in America.) I also hold a teaching credential for California Technical Education/ Health Sciences. I began working at Las Lomas during the 2007-2008 school year.

My philosophy for healthcare of students at the high school level is guided by preventative measures. I focus on teaching students about sleep, nutrition, exercise and keeping life in balance.  I also work on teams with Counselors, Intervention Specialists, our School Psychologist, Administrators, the Wellness Center and Teachers to create plans for students who have special physical and mental health disorders that make daily access to academics difficult.

I teach first, fourth periods and Wednesday Academy for Medical Technologies (ROP) and hold Health Office hours daily when I am not teaching. In order to promote classroom attendance, I am open during lunch and brunch (periodic exceptions.)

If your student needs medication at school or has a medical/health issue we need to know about, medical documentation is needed for each new calendar year. You can access these Medical Forms and Care Plans on this website.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any questions or concerns:

CONCUSSION

As everyone is well-aware, the topic of concussion is in the news almost daily. Not only are we seeing more concussion in youth, but we now understand more about the pathophysiology and necessary recovery for this mild traumatic brain injury.

If your student sustains a concussion, it is crucial for them to be evaluated and treated by a trained healthcare provider. As with any health/medical condition, please make sure you obtain detailed medical documentation to submit to the school.

In addition, please make sure you notify the following people at school to assist in managing concussion for students:

Ron Abrew, Athletic Trainer (if your student is in sports, PE)
Kathi Mooney, School Nurse
Your Student's Counselor
